It was a few days late but we celebrated Steve’s 70th Birthday with family and friends. It was an evening filled with food, laughs and good conversation. For the celebration he wanted carrot cake . . . . very good choice with lots of cream cheese icing, his favorite. When it came time to open gifts we it seems we all had the same idea. After all, what do you get the man who doesn’t really have a hobby. Unless you count planning cruises, making list, working out, working in the yard and surfing the web . . . . ok, guess you could count these things as hobbies. Anyway, he does like to play slots and doing scratch off cards. He did VERY well on the last cruise with the slots. He doesn’t do as well with the cards. We all chose to get him scratch off/raffle tickets for …
Happy Birthday to Steve!! Kristie, Steve and Samantha sent him balloons on his birthday. We didn’t celebrate until December 2 but they wanted him to have something on his day.
Holan found this light for Steve for his Birthday. Since we are leaving for New York and the Southern Caribbean Cruise two days before his birthday she decided to give it to him early. On the box it said “Shower your home with thousands of dazzling lights with the Star Shower laser light! The plug-in laser light that projects stars everywhere. Illuminates your home in red and green laser stars covering over 600 square feet. He was really excited and took it outside to try it out. He placed it on the ground. Then thought it might work better if it was up high, say from the gutter. He gets it placed just so and takes another look. It was just right so he reached up to adjust it. The light then fell and hit his face. This is what it looks like on a house, but we think they …
Steve and Ricky bid on a wine tasting at the CASA Sweetheart Dinner and Dance. We provided the place and Ricky and Rumi provided cheese and fruit. Connie and Phil brought his homemade salsa, it was really good. He has promised that he will bring us some when he makes it this summer. We had 19 people, who all seemed to enjoy the wine and visiting. This is a picture of the group taken by Rick. Makes the house look really BIG!After the wine tasting we celebrated the neighborhood birthdays. We hadn’t done this in a while so we had six to celebrate; Steve, Holan, Dee, Bob, Chris and Rumi. Before the cake cutting Dee and Holan got into a sword fight with the knives. As we waiting for who knows what, the group gathered around the island. Looks like everyone is praying over the cake. Happy Birthday Everyone!!
Our grand-nephew turned three recently. The party was held at a park and it was a wonderful afternoon to be outside. The kids enjoyed the park and the adults enjoyed chatting under the shelter. There were balloons, poppers and of course cake and ice cream. Amy decorated the Spider Man cake, really cool, and she did a great job, and tasted good, an added bonus. This is a short video of the group singing happy birthday.
For our 44th Wedding Anniversary and my 64th birthday we went to the Wine Barn. The Wine Barn is a 16 aces of land just 10 minutes from where we live. The Barn overlooks a pond and sets next to the vineyard. On this night live music was provided by “Boomerz KC” with Dinner Vendor Street Wings KC. We didn’t enjoy the wings but the band was fantastic. These are the wine bottles and slushies that we started out drinking. Afterwards, we went to Katy & Bob’s and had a DQ Cookies and Cream Cake. It was a fun evening.
For my birthday the kids gave me this very large picture Steve and I found at Ikea in MN when we were there for Spring Break. We thought it was a very peaceful picture that would look nice on the back porch. Fred and Steve pulled it out of it’s round tub and started to work on it. Note that Fred is looking at the directions, all in pictures, before they start. All this pieces and parts are together so time to take it outside. They hung it and then decide that it should go all the way to the top of the ceiling. And even though the ceiling to not straight it works. The bridge adds a nice outside feeling to the porch.
On Tuesday June 6, 1950 I was born to Charles and Geneva Rice. I don’t remember much about the day but have been told that Dad dropped Mom off at the hospital and went to his job at Minton Machinery. My birth certificate doesn’t have a time of birth, weight or length and there is no baby book.   This is Dad and me in front of our house on Grapevine Road. It was on the corner and later became Shady Nook Drive-In. The building in the background is  Fugate Grocery Store where I get my daily fix of popsicles. I went in several times a day and told them to charge the popsicles and didn’t understand why Dad cut off my charging abilities. My thoughts were we didn’t have to pay for the popsicles so why couldn’t I have my popsicles. Cherry was my favorite.   This is one …
For Holan’s Birthday we went to Sea Life at Crown Center in Kansas City. Sea Life opened in April 2012 with tanks of fresh waters of the Missouri River, into the mighty Mississippi River then out into the warm blue coral strewn waters of the Caribbean Sea, ending in the deep dark abyss of the Atlantic Ocean. They have a huge tropical ocean tank with a walk-through underwater tunnel.         We learned that instead of blood, starfish have a water vascular system, they pump sea water through its sieve plate, into its tube feet to extend them. Muscles within the tube feet retract them. This is why when the starfish always keep their feet in the water when they reach the top of the water line.         There is a whole tank of sea animals you can touch and play with, as Steve is …
