Samantha made us a menu sign for our 4th of July Lunch. It helped people to see what was on the buffet as they were waiting in line. She really enjoys doing crafts and making posters. Maybe she will go into marketing or graphic arts when she gets older. When the conversation started on having this 4th of July weekend, my first thought was we don’t have enough room on the pool deck for all these people, plus food. I thought it would be nice to have a table attached to the back of the fence and to have tables setup in that area for eating. One afternoon Steve and Rick went wood shopping, pulled out the electric saw and by the end of the day we had a very nice place to put our food. The tables fold nicely up to the fence when not in use and hang …
As I started to write this post, I looked up at the title I had written. Then I questioned, what does it mean to be a friend. So I went to the Urban Dictionary, not a source used by persons of my age, but I find they usually have some interesting definitions. So it’s definition of friend is: people who are aware of how retarded you are and still manage to be seen in public with you. people who make you laugh till you pee your pants. people who cry for you when one of your special items disappear. when you don’t have enough money to get an ice cream, they chip in. knows all of your internet passwords. who would never make you cry just to be mean. Not a bad definition except I don’t care for the word retarded being used. Guess that puts me into being a …
There are times you want to get in the pool and other times you like just being around the pool. In this first picture is Wendy is in the pool but not in THE pool. Steve purchased a small kids pool for the little ones to play in, didn’t think about the adults using it for any reason but Windy makes good use of it while visiting with the others in the big pool. Dawn, who lives in the same apartment complex, visits with Benz. The twins pool side, now I don’t know which one is which so we will just call them THE TWINS. This may be the same one in all three photos. If you figure it out let me know. Candi was cleaning the twin up after a diaper change, another use for a water gun! The next two photos are just two cute little girls with their …
As far as 4th of July weekend goes, this was a cooler water year. It was warm enough for the adults to get in but not too hot. One year we had to put bags of ice in the pool to cool it down. One thing about this 4th, we had more kids than usual so the water guns got a workout. At times it was just the kids shooting and other times the adults got involved. The adults are filling up their water guns, getting ready for the fight. Then comes the attack.
The fireworks were great, the city really did get their money’s worth. The only thing, that needs to be improved on, is getting people out of the park after the show is over.
In 2012 a volunteer was killed while assisting after the Lansing fireworks. He was among the crew disposing of fireworks that had not discharged during the show. One exploded near the man as he was working. We were there that night and did not know anything had happened until the next morning. Since that night, the fireworks have been held on the 3rd instead of the 4th. It appears that it is cheaper to have the display on the 3rd and it does seem to work better for us. On the 4th it is easier just to stay at home after cooking, drinking and a day in the pool. Tonight we did a real easy dinner of Meatball Sub Casserole and salad and then we were off to the Community Park. We had a group of thirteen adults and five children so we did a caravan. It was a very …
The boys had an early midnight to welcome 2015. We found a count down from another country on the computer and let them do their poppers. It was fun watching them and then we sent them off to bed.
Suzy and Rick had played LCR in Madisonville with friends, and thought we might enjoy playing it on New Year’s. They went to Target and found it on sale for something like 49 cents. The game can be played with money or chips, they use money instead of chips. LCR  is a dice game that is very easy to learn and simple to play. It is played with three dice and doesn’t require any strategic skills, giving beginners the same chances of winning as experienced players. This makes LCR a good game for kids who don’t like losing — nobody is out of the game until someone wins, and when that happens, everyone else loses at the same time. We had six to eight players and the two boys, Cameron (age 3) and Dexter (age 5). The boys joined us in between their different activities. This is how you play …
Steve had a drink table set up on the back porch and had a nice selection of drinks. The dining room table had food on it and there was a warmer on the stove with things that need to be hot.
