I tagged this post as an injury but Dupuytren’s contracture is not really an injury. It is an abnormal thickening and tightening of the normally elastic tissue beneath the skin of the palm and fingers. This tissue, fascia, contains strands of fibers, like cords, that run from the palm upward into the fingers. When these cords tighten, or contract, it causes the fingers to curl forward. In severe cases, it can lead to crippling hand deformities. This is why Steve had to have surgery on his hand on the 7th of August. The Dupuytren disease had been getting worse over the years and got to the point he no longer could straighten his pinky finger straight out. It had also become very painful and was becoming harder for him to do certain things with his hand. The cause of Dupuytren’s disease, is unknown, but certain biochemical factors that affect the …
Holan found this light for Steve for his Birthday. Since we are leaving for New York and the Southern Caribbean Cruise two days before his birthday she decided to give it to him early. On the box it said “Shower your home with thousands of dazzling lights with the Star Shower laser light! The plug-in laser light that projects stars everywhere. Illuminates your home in red and green laser stars covering over 600 square feet. He was really excited and took it outside to try it out. He placed it on the ground. Then thought it might work better if it was up high, say from the gutter. He gets it placed just so and takes another look. It was just right so he reached up to adjust it. The light then fell and hit his face. This is what it looks like on a house, but we think they …
Just the other day I was telling Steve this was the summer for him to cut is finger. It wasfour years ago he used the hedge trimmer to trim his index finger on his left hand. Two years ago he used the slicer to slice his middle finger on his left hand. Guess he decided to get that marked off is to do list because he sliced open his little finger on his left hand.He was out volunteering at Fort Leavenworth on the 20th, started to slide and grabbedsome tall grass to catch himself. In the process he cut up four fingers in all but the littlefinger was the worse. He decided he did not want to go get stitches this time, so weare waiting to see how it heals.
Last Friday we were getting ready for a yard sale. Hershey and Pebbles were in the house and wanted out to see Suki. After letting them out I started out of the garage and Suki turned over to do her begging trick. I lost my balance when trying not to step on her and this is the results. These were taken on Saturday.I hit the table with my chest and my face breaking the glass on a picture, thankfully only two small cuts on by mouth! Then I hit the table with my neck as I pushed the table out of my way landing on my knee and then on down to my side. My neck looks as if I have a baseball hanging on my right side and hurts from behind my ear to the middle of my face. I was wearing jeans which saved me from having more …
We have a new slicer at our house. After dinner, Steve was drying the dishes and picked the slicer up……. A trip to the ER and five stitches later his finger was sore for a few days. Since it was healing so well he thought he’d hit his finger with a free flying bungee cord. It bleed for a while but we didn’t have to go back to the ER. After seven days the stitches were taken out BUT they only took three out…the other two were no where to be found. Anyone need a slicer????
