In 2012 a volunteer was killed while assisting after the Lansing fireworks. He was among the crew disposing of fireworks that had not discharged during the show. One exploded near the man as he was working. We were there that night and did not know anything had happened until the next morning. Since that night, the fireworks have been held on the 3rd instead of the 4th.
It appears that it is cheaper to have the display on the 3rd and it does seem to work better for us. On the 4th it is easier just to stay at home after cooking, drinking and a day in the pool. Tonight we did a real easy dinner of Meatball Sub Casserole and salad and then we were off to the Community Park. We had a group of thirteen adults and five children so we did a caravan.
It was a very nice evening but it was a little cool. Some even wished they had a worn more clothes or had sweaters with them. We took our lawn chairs and had blankets for the kids. We also had a cooler of drinks. One of the twins, age 2 1/2, sat on the Styrofoam cooler and busted it to pieces. The look on her face was priceless. Of course, no one got a picture of it. Speaking of getting photos, I didn’t take pictures over the weekend like we usually do. Therefore, there are a lot of things that we do not have a record of or pictures of everyone who was there.
