Santa Monica State Beach is a three miles long, covering 245 acres of sand along Santa Monica Bay. The sandy beach is very wide with rolling waves, and great views of Santa Monica Mountains.
Located on the world-famous Santa Monica Pier, Pacific Park is the only amusement park on the West Coast to be located on a pier. There are dozen rides, games, ocean front restaurants and lots of shopping along the pier. Also located on the pier is the Route 66 End of the Trail Sign. The 2,450 mile long Route 66 was originally built to connect Chicago to Los Angeles. The actual end of the legendary highway has long been debated. But the sign officially marks the end of the highway. Along the pier we found Katherine Terrien singing and selling her CDs. There was also an aquarium and a trapeze school among all the shops and restaurants.Â
When we first reached the Helona Blowhole area we stopped at an overlook area thinking that this was where the blowhole was located. We soon realized it was not. It was a place to look at the coast line. People come from all over to enjoy the beautiful scenery and the beach at the cove, Save
Ukumehame Beach Park is located near the 12 mile marker along the Honoapiilani Highway (Hwy 30) in West Maui. The park takes its name from the huge valley which can be seen directly behind it which carves a spectacular “V” in the West Maui Mountains. These dangerous valley ridges eventually lead to the pass that that was taken by King Kamehmeha’s army of Spartan like warriors who successfully attacked Maui’s warriors from behind in the decisive battle of the Iao Valley. A couple and their dog was enjoying a day at the beach playing. The dog worked hard at finding the ball and sticks his owner sent flying into the air. After a while the dog came in for a water break and to roll in the sand. He was having a good day. The drift wood along the beach was very neat looking.
Always looking for the perfect waves to ride in, the guys enjoyed boogie boarding.
In 1958, when the last runways were closed and the flying field status terminated, Bellows Field, an important air field during World War II, was re-named Bellows Air Force Station. It then became an armed forces Recreation Center. Bellows provides beachfront cabins, camping, and limited condominium style apartments for active duty, reserve, and retired military personnel to stay in. The northern section of beach on Bellows, stretches nearly five miles from Wailea Point to Makapuu, Waimanalo Bay Beach Park, is one of the longest beaches on the island. Despite rougher waters, which make it less suitable for inexperienced swimmers, the size, scenery and soft sand make Waimanalo a classic Hawaiian beach that is great for boogie boarding, fishing, sunbathing or walking along the shoreline. We spent the afternoon enjoying the breezes, the water and the beautiful scenery. There were very few people there so it was like having our very …
Kualoa Regional Park is located at Kaneohe Bay, on the island of Oahu in Hawaii. The park covers 153 areacs across the road from the Pali-ku (cliffs) of the Koolau Range. The beach front is white sand and 1/3 mile offshore is the small basalt island of MokoliÊ»i (or Chinaman’s Hat). One of five parks on the shore of Kane’ohe Bay, Kuzloa is listed on the National Register of Historical Places. Kualoa means “long back,” but also ay be translated as “long ancestral background” The name may refer to the time when O’ahu’s chiefs brought their children here to be trained as rulers and learn the traditions of their heritage. In deference to the sacredness of Kusloa, canoes passing by were required to lower their sails. Mokoli’i Islet, one of Windward O’ahu’s most famous landmarks, lies off the park. Its creation is explained in a legend about Hi’iaka, a sister …
Turtle Beach, also know as Laniakea Beach, is a well-known surfing spot on Oahu’s North Shore. The beach offers great sand and an opportunity to relax. The best thing about the beach is the green sea turtles. Also known as Honu, the turtles are protected by The Endangered Species Act and have experienced a significant increase in their numbers since being protected. Honu Guardian volunteers are on the beach every day to offer educational outreach about the protected species. This helps avoid inadvertent harassment and assures the honu’s peaceful coexistence on the beaches. The green sea turtles at Laniakea come close into to shore to feed on the seaweed growing on the rocks. The green sea turtle is a reptile that can live up to 80 years of age. Like other reptiles, they are cold-blooded. So they will sometimes haul themselves up on the beach to bask in …
After having lunch we changed and walked out onto the beach. The beach is located on the south shore of Honolulu. The world-famous neighborhood of Waikiki was once a playground for Hawaiian royalty. Known in Hawaiian as “spouting waters,” Waikiki was introduced to the world when its first hotel, Moana Surider, in 1901 was built. Waikiki Beach has all kinds of activities since the 1950s such as swimming, snorkeling, canoeing, kayaking, or just relaxing under a palm tree. The 2-mile stretch of white sand coast is actually divided into several sections by various hotels, but each is connected to the other by a boardwalk. Steve and Lupe were finishing up putting away things and getting the sun tan lotion, the rest were wondering the beach. At some point, guess I was wondering a little too much (might have had something to do with all the drinks) Steve and Fred sent …
During our trip to Hawaii we went to Waikiki Beach several times. On this day, it was our first visit. We had stop for drinks at Hawaiian Hilton Hotel and Hale Koa Hotel. We had Mai Tais at each hotel but the ones at the Hilton were my favorite. At $15 a piece, they should have been good! They also looked good and they didn’t slight you on the booze. After a couple of these I moved onto the Danno, a frozen drink named after the character from Hawaii 5-0. These are the Mai Tais from Hale Koa Hotel, they were only $9 and also carried a punch! We had a couple here before going to the Hilton By this time we were needing some lunch, I had the Hawaiian Loco Moco. It was a wonderful dish layered with white rice, a burger patty, two fried eggs topped with Maui …
