This is the walkway the way the guys did it. We thought the rocks needed
to be closer together and larger.
Â
This is the first part of the walk Steve and Rick did after the Watkins
Mills Trip. Yes, they came home from the trip and worked on this
plus took Suki and Jackson for a walk after they finished! They
got in lots of steps in on this day.
Â
Â
Ok, so all I can say is that we were so excited about getting the steps and
hill down we didn’t realize that Johnnie wasn’t doing what he told us they
would do on the walkway. He said they would put weed block down, use
sand that would bind after it was wet and that the stones would not move.
Well, he used sand but just plain old sand. At the time we didn’t think about
it but more and more we realized that he not done what he had said. So Steve
when Steve was got getting a few larger stones he found this PermaSand. We
think this is what he was talking about. Anyway, this is what Steve and Rick
used and the stones seem to be very set now.
Â
They had already put stones down and the pea rock around them before they
found the PermaSand so they had to take up the pea rock in order to put down
the new sand. They sharpened a chop stick and Rick used it to get the rock out.
Â
After they got the sand into the walk, it was time to sweep the stones and
water the walk down. This was to set the sand, then no foot traffic for 24
hours and no rain showers on it for 48 and no hard rain for 72. Seems like
it has rained every day since then sometimes very hard and over three
inches. Walk seems to be doing great even with the rain.
Â
Â
Rick checked out Steve’s work and decided had gotten it wet enough.
Â
On the second day Steve started early while Rick was out getting his oil
changed. Rick did make it back in time to help finish up the walk. These
pictures show the time and effort it took for just one stone.
