It was moving day and Miss Tobie, our grandcat, was not sure she liked her new home. At the new apartment, we placed her in the cloth kennel so she wouldn’t run out the door as the moving truck was unloaded. A few years before this, she had fallen asleep in the window, the screen fell out, she tumbled down to the trash can and she was gone. For three days we search high and low for her. Late one night, she was heard outside of the house. Looking around the yard, she was not found. Heading back into the house, a quick glance up at the bedroom window and there she was. She must had seen her chance to get back in the house when the door was open. Everyone was very happy she was home but we did not want a repeat of that experience! This is the …
Ran across this video today and it brought back memories of Dagwood and Daisy, my granddogs playing during a visit to San Antonio back in 2014. After losing their first dog, Lucky, the kids decided after a few months it was time to add a dog into their home again. They went to get one dog and came home with two. Dagwood and Daisy were in two different locations and had never met. As you can see from the video they had a happy life together. They would play three or four times a day and it was so much fun to watch. Daisy is the one making most of the noise and the smaller of the two. Daisy was diagnosis with cancer and was gone in a few months. After this Dagwood had much quieter days.
It was 26 this morning and the fountain froze up. This is the progress of the defrosting. Looks like it’s going to be nice here today after rain yesterday!
As soon as I could, I preordered this book. The day it arrived I started listening to it. After the first few minutes I knew I was going to enjoy this book. Michelle does the audible, her voice is so calming and the story telling is wonderful. Her descriptions of people, places and events makes you feel as if you are right there with her. The book starts with her childhood, her brother, her neighborhood and her family. She lived in South Shore neighborhood of Chicago with her lower middle class parents, who had high expectations for their children. Her father was a boiler operator with MS. She tells the stories of going to Princeton, then Harvard Law and then to going to work at an ultra prestigious Chicago law firm where she met Barack. From there she shares with us her struggles with Baracks political ambitions. She talks about …
It was a late summer morning around 8:00 when the phone rang. As the conversation unfolded, I laid in bed listening to one side of the conversation. It took a minute or two to realize what was being said but not understanding exactly what it meant. The phone was hung up then quickly picked up and a number dialed. She asked to speak to her husband and in a very short time she started pouring out the other side of the conversation I had not heard. A man had called and wanted her to know that his wife and her husband were having an affair. As a child of 12, I am not sure that I knew what that meant. However, I knew from the tone and tears it must not be good. She desperately wanted him to tell her that it was not true. He must have reassured her …
Today we went to the World’s Oldest Indoor Rodeo at the Fort Worth Stock Yards. And yes, it was truly our first rodeo. This was the 117th Rodeo and was held at the Will Rogers Memorial Coliseum in Fort Worth. This is the last year the event will be held at Will Rogers. A new $450 million arena is being built a short distance away. We got a great parking place in the handicap lot and found our way to the first exhibit hall. The range of vendors was outstanding! Of course, there was the western hats, boots, house decor and clothing for the entire family. The vendors also ranged from mattresses to furniture, fire pit and metal signs and fences to farm equipment, home improvements to home made butter, honey, and salsa. It was a great home show, a beautiful western wear boutique and a wonderful craft show rolled into …
Hershey was curled up on the blank today and had his eyes and part of his nose covered. I have often seen him push his nose down into the covers because he is cold. Today it was hard to tell if there was too much sun so he was using his leg as a mask to block it out. Or maybe his face was cold so he cover it to keep it warm. If only he could talk!
Hershey was sitting on the couch when he got up and went over to Holan and laid his head on her lap it. He hates sweaters but with his Arthritis in his back he has to wear them. At 14 years old, he has also started taking pain meds.
Our hot tub broke. We went out one night to get in and the water temp was 54 with the air temp around 40. Don, the hot tub guy, came out and said the heat pump was bad. So a new tub was in our future but first Steve decided to have a new concrete pad put down. The area where the old tubs had sat was not level and Steve was always trying to get it level. We went off on a cruise and when we got home the new pad was in place. We were really pleased with Tony’s work. So now we are ready for the new tub to be delivered.
