We had dinner at a restaurant overlooking the Elliott Bay on Pier 66 at the Pike Place Market. As we were walking around the streets near the hotel we saw this building that Steve REALLY like. It was Rainier Tower a 31-story, 514.0Â ft skyscraper in the Metropolitan Tract of Seattle, Washington, at 1301 Fifth Avenue. It was designed by Minoru Yamasaki, who designed the World Trade Center in New York City as well as the IBM Building, which is on the corner across the street from Rainier Tower to the southeast. Its construction was completed in 1977. The skyscraper has an unusual appearance, being built atop an 11-storey, 37Â m (121Â ft) concrete pedestal base that tapers towards ground level, like an inverted pyramid. Locals often refer to it as the “Beaver Building” as its physical appearance looks like a tree being felled by a beaver. Â Â Â Â Â Â Save Save
We left for Seattle Washington at 8:00 a.m. this morning. We flew into Dallas and met Fred and Lupe at the American The Admirals Club. We then traveled together to Seattle. We checked into the Crown Plaza and headed off down the steep hill to Pike Place Market.. This is a public market overlooking the Elliott Bay. The Market opened August 17, 1907, and is one of the oldest continuously operated public farmers’ markets in the United States. Named after the central street, Pike Place runs northwest from Pike Street to Virginia Street, and remains one of Seattle’s most popular tourist destinations. The Market is built on the edge of a steep hill, and consists of several lower levels located below the main level. Each features a variety of unique shops such as antique dealers, comic book and collectible shops, small family owned restaurants, and one of the oldest head …
For our first play, we went to see “Jersey Boys,” which was just across the street from our hotel. The musical opened on Broadway in 2005. “Jersey Boys” is known as a jukebox musical with music by Bob Gaudio, lyrics by Bob Crewe, and book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice. It is presented in a documentary-style format that dramatizes the story of four young men from the wrong side of the tracks in New Jersey. The play takes you through the formation, success and eventual break-up of the 1960s rock ‘n roll group The Four Seasons. “Jersey Boys” has the advantage of featuring singers that actually sound like the singers they are portraying and a technology-enhanced band that approximates the original sound of their music. Jersey Boys won four 2006 Tony Awards including Best Musical, and the 2009 Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Musical. The sets are simple …
For Christmas Steve gave us a trip to New York. So we took off on February 16th for the Big Apple. We arrived at the airport and found a stretch limo that would take us to our hotel in the theatre district. This is an area in Midtown Manhattan where most Broadway theatres are located, as well as many other theaters, movie theaters, restaurants, hotels, and other places of entertainment. It extends from West 40th Street to West 54th Street, from west of Sixth Avenue to east of Eighth Avenue, and includes Times Square. We stayed at the Novotel New York. We could see Times Square from our window. In the early morning the street was empty except for taxis. Late at night there were lots of cars and people running around like little ants. One night several fire trucks worked their way through the maze of cars and people. …
After a day in the sun in Ocho Rios, Jamaica, it was time to dress up for the formal night dinner. The food and service were always good. At dinner we celebrated our 33rd wedding anniversary and my 53rd Birthday with a cake for each. At breakfast that morning, Steve proposed and place a 1.42 carats round brilliant cut diamond ring on her finger. Save Save

This a page I did for a scrapbook on our Carnival Triumph Western Caribbean Cruise and I don’t have copies of the photos. It is too bad the photos are blurred but maybe you can tell something about them. The journal block reads: A drink on the Lido Deck 9 after making inquiries about our separate table assignment for dinner. The Maitre D’ didn’t fix the problem until we didn’t show up to the first formal night on June 1st. Miami can be seen out the window. Swimmers, sunbathers, live music on the upper deck and the dining service team doing a special dance performance during dinner. Our mandatory life boat drill, required by the U.S. Coast Guard and the Convention of Safety of LIfe at Sea, at approximately 4:00 after we boarded the ship. Steve had been taking advantaged of the “FunShip Special” Drink – an hour after this …
